Privacy Policy

The Cut ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly:

Account data — phone number used to create your account
Golf data — rounds, scores, sim sessions, club stats, swing notes you log in the app
Coaching conversations — messages between you and Chase, our AI coach
Photos — scorecards and sim screenshots you upload for auto-logging
Profile preferences — handicap goal, home course, bag setup, coaching style

We also collect limited technical data automatically:

Device type and OS version
App version and session timestamps
Crash reports (via Expo/EAS)

2. How We Use Your Data

To power your AI coaching experience — Chase uses your golf data to give relevant, personalised advice
To calculate stats, handicap trends, and progress reports
To generate the coach-sharing snapshot (only when you explicitly share it)
To improve the product — aggregate, anonymised usage patterns only
To send you push notifications if you opt in (round reminders, milestones)

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.

3. AI and Third-Party Processing

Chase is powered by Anthropic's Claude API. When you send a message, relevant context from your golf data is included in the request. Anthropic processes this data to generate a response. We do not store your messages with Anthropic beyond what is needed to complete the request. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to that processing.

Photos you upload for scorecard extraction are sent to Anthropic's vision API for processing and are not retained by Anthropic beyond the request.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL) hosted on AWS infrastructure in the US. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit (TLS 1.2+). Access is restricted by row-level security policies — you can only read your own data.

5. Data Retention

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all personal data (rounds, sessions, coaching history, profile) is permanently deleted within 30 days. Global course and hole data contributed to our shared dataset is retained in anonymised form.

6. Your Rights

Access — you can export your data at any time from the Me tab (JSON export)
Deletion — you can delete your account from the Me tab, which wipes all personal data
Correction — you can edit any data you've logged in the app
Portability — data export is available in JSON format

7. Children

The Cut is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. We'll notify you of material changes via the app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
